How long does it take to get AWS developer certification?

There's never a dull minute in the tech industry, and that's true even for Amazon Web Services (AWS). Nowadays, you can learn about every aspect of AWS using online courses and other training. If you're looking to improve your career or your personal skillsets, these programs will help set you on the path of success. One popular skill is AWS developer certification.

There are quite a lot of great courses available to help you achieve AWS certification. However, here's everything you need to know about how long it takes to get certified.

To begin with, there are three types of AWS developer certifications: Associate, Professional, and Specialty. Of these three levels, the associate level is the most basic and easiest to acquire; however, it's also the least useful. In contrast, the professional level provides both a deeper dive into specific skillsets as well as practical experience. The specialty level is for highly technical specializations.

Before you can even start the certification process, you need to have a couple of prerequisites:

1. You must have some experience with AWS and be able to score at least 70% on the AWS Service Basics and 101 quiz at satsipoint.com. (This is an online quiz.) If your score doesn't meet these requirements, try obtaining some training on Amazon's self-paced training programs, which include the most relevant content in terms of getting certified.

2. You must also be able to demonstrate some practical experience with AWS.

In order to obtain an associate certification, you'll need to take the Amazon Web Services Certified Associate – Associate (AWS-CA) exam. The associated course is called AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (AWS-CSAA), and it can be taken in three ways: On-demand, self paced online, or live online. The on-demand and the self-paced online versions can be taken on your own schedule; however, the live online version is more intense.

In order to obtain a professional certification, you'll need to take the AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Professional (AWS-CSA). The associated course is called AWS Fundamentals of Cloud Computing internship, and it can be taken in on your own schedule. The course is an introductory course, so you won't need specialized skill sets or prior experience to start learning.

The professional certification is especially useful because it provides more depth than the associate level does.
